Crab Graph Free Crochet Pattern

I have an awesome new graph for you today! A free crab graphghan blanket pattern that you can crochet before we say adieu to summer.

I’m in a bit of denial about summer coming to a close. My kids go back to school next week and I’m not sure what in the heck we’ve done for the past two months. I’m not ready for it to be over! I really wish I could put emojis in blog posts. Insert a virtual cry emoji here.

But my emotional pain is your gain because it inspired me to design this awesome crab graph.

Crab Graphghan Crochet Pattern

I love it so much! So beachy! So happy crabby! The graph is what I would call medium sized and is made up a total of 73 x 62 tiles.

The free pdf file includes a full sized version of the graph and also a 4 part breakdown which you may choose to print out and tape together so that the tiles are larger and easier to see.

New to Crochet Graphs?

If you’ve never crocheted a graph before check out this post for three different stitches you can use. I prefer to work my graphghans up using the corner to corner method. You can find bunches of tutorials about c2c here.

Zelda Crochet Patterns – Etsy’s Best

Hey listen! If you’re a Zelda nerd you’ve come to the right place. I’ve put together a short list of the best Zelda crochet patterns on Etsy.

Zelda Crochet Patterns

I have some seriouuus Zelda geeks at my house. We’ve done Zelda birthdays and Zelda Halloween; We have the giant almanacs and the huge foam swords and sheilds – the whole nine. So, of course, I’ve tried my hand at a little Zelda crochet. One year for Christmas I made my youngest the cutest little Link amigurumi. It was one of my first ever plushies and I used terrible yarn but it’s still one of his most treasured possessions.

Anyhoo, I’ve scoured the interwebs to bring you the top Zelda patterns on Etsy. We’ve got a little of everything here from costumes to blankets. If you find something you like in the list, make sure to pin it for later!

Small Flamingo Crochet Pattern – Free Graph

Heeeey, summah lovers – I have a new free lapghan graph for you today. If it looks familiar, that’s because it is!

A couple of months ago I released this free flamingo graph blanket. I looove how it turned out but it’s massive. One person showed me their finished blanket and it was 7 feet long! Which is cool if that’s what you’re going for but I know some of you may not want a bed-sized blanket.  In fact, someone reached out to me via email to ask if I could make a more lapghan sized version of the graph. And so that’s what I’ve done!

Free Flamingo Lapghan Crochet Pattern

I tend to get a little GO BIG OR GO HOME with my graphs. Because of my television crochet alongs, I’m used to working with huge finished projects. So my go-to is to design graphs that will fit a full size bed. But I’m going to try to curb my enthusiasm in the future and offer more lapghan sized projects, as well.

The large version of the flamingo graph is 66 x 100 tiles large.

The smaller version is 39 x 60 tiles large. Big (little) difference!

The free pdf file includes a full sized version of the graph and also a 4 part breakdown which you may choose to print out in four sections so that the tiles are larger and easier to see.

How to Crochet a Graph

If you’re wondering how to crochet a graph, this is the post for you! When starting a new crochet along I get a lot of questions from people who are afraid of reading a graph. Especially people who have difficulty reading regular crochet patterns. Well, have no fear! Graphs are much easier to read than crochet patterns, in my opinion.

How to Crochet a Graph

If you’ve mastered shapes and colors – you can read a graph! If you see a green square, you work a green stitch. If you see a red square (or “tile”) you crochet a red stitch. It’s that simple! No struggling to decode confusing crochet language.

In this post I’m going to share three different stitches for crocheting a graph and they’re all super easy, I promise! If you can chain, SC, HDC, and DC, you can work any of these methods.

Three Methods for Crocheting a Graph

  1. Corner to Corner (c2c)
  2. HDC
  3. Bobble Stitch

First things first, my preferred method and what I have used in all of my nerdy crochet graphghans.

Corner to Corner (c2c)

I use the mini c2c variation of this stitch in my blankets and it’s very easy – if you can chain and HDC then you can do this.  The stitch is worked diagonally so your graphghan will work up on the diagonal, as well. Your first row will be one tile across, your second row two tiles, etc, as you increase.  One tile equals 1 c2c stitch.

Crocheting graphs with HDC

Another method that I’ve seen participants of my crochet alongs use is the HDC method. Instead of diagonally like the c2c stitch, this is worked across horizontally line by line.

Each tile of the graph is made up of 4 HDC stitches and each line of the graph is worked twice, once right to left, and then left to right.

For your foundation chain double the number of tiles plus 2. So in the example below you would chain 14 + 2 for turning. In the first row you work 2 HDC per tile, and on the second row you work another 2 HDC above the first two. Chain 2 and turn after each row.

Here is an example of the same panel from above worked up in HDC.  It’s a less boxy finished product.

Crocheting Graphs with the Bobble Stitch

This stitch is also known as the popcorn or puff stitch. Just as with the HDC method, this stitch is worked horizontally back and forth and you will need to start with a foundation chain that is double the number of tiles in your graph plus 1.

This method is made of a two row repeat. First a sc foundation row and then the bobble stitch row that represent the tiles in the graph. In the example below the blue line represents the sc rows and the red the bobble stitch tiles. If you’re unfamiliar with the bobble stitch you can find a detailed video tutorial here.

Crocheting a graph with bobble stitch.

Below is an example of a graph crocheted with the bobble stitch. The finished project is puffy and squishy with clean lines. It’s a lovely stitch but does use a lot more yarn than the other two methods.

Graph crocheted using the bobble (popcorn) stitch.

How to crochet a graph using the c2c stitch.

Graph crocheted using the corner to corner method.

That’s it! Crocheting a graph is really quite simple as far as the stitches go. The tricky part that takes some practice is changing colors and learning to use bobbins. Check out my corner to corner for beginners post for more insights about bobbins, and more.

Thank you to my former crochet along participants for letting me share images if your lovely work!

I hope you found this post helpful. Make sure to pin with the image below so you can find it later.

Pineapple Graph Free Crochet Pattern

I have another fun, free graph for you today. I’m feeling all the summer vibes lately and I couldn’t resist whipping up this pineapple graphghan pattern. But wait – there’s more! I’ve designed three different versions of this graph to choose from!

Pineapple Graphghan Free Pattern

  • Pineapple Graph
  • Pineapple Monogram Graph
  • Pineapple Custom Name Graph

Simple Pineapple Graph Crochet Pattern

We’ll start with the simplest. The first pineapple graph pattern is cool and clean. It measures 45 x 60 tiles and should work up to a nice sized lapghan depending on the yarn, hook, and stitch you use. I usually make my crochet graphghans using the mini c2c stitch. Find out more about the c2c method here. Or check out this post to learn about two other methods for crocheting graphs.

Click here to download the free plain pineapple graph pattern.

Custom Monogram Pineapple Graph

The second pineapple graphghan pattern features a monogram and is 45 x 56 tiles large. You can personalize the graph with your own custom monogram initial. The free pattern comes with an additional page of capital letters as a guide.

Pineapple Graphghan with Name

Aaaaand, last but not least the third pineapple graph is 45 x 63 tiles and features free space at the bottom for you to customize with your own name. Simply print out the graph, grab a pencil, and get to designing. If you have an exceptionally long name there may not be room but most names should fit just fine.

Jurassic Park Graph Free Crochet Pattern

Have you been looking for a free Jurassic Park crochet pattern? Well, hold on to your butts because this is your lucky day. Get this amazing blanket graphghan totally free! The pattern only comes in graph form, no written instructions are provided.

Jurassic Park Graph Free Crochet Pattern

In June 2018 I released a paid pattern for a more complex Jurassic Park Graphghan that includes many panels with iconic moments from the original movie. You can find it here if you’re curious and want to see the finished pictures. I love how it turned out.

But as a treat to my loyal followers I thought it would be fun to also publish a free graph that is just the classic Jurassic Park Logo. So I created the beast of a graph that you see below.

Jurassic Park Graphghan Free Crochet Pattern

This PDF download includes a 100 x 120 large graph of the Jurassic Park Logo. The graph is shared in full and also broken down into 9 separate pages that you can print out and tape together, if you’d like a large, physical graph to work with.

It is quite large and depending on the stitch, hook, and tension you use – should easily fit a full sized bed. I normally work up my graphghans using the mini c2c stitch. If you’re unfamiliar with this technique check out this post for a heap of tips, tricks, and tutorials.

Also! Join the new Psychedelic Doilies Facebook Group to share your WIPS and HOTH projects or to ask questions.  I plan to use this group in the future to find pattern testers for my graphs so make sure to join!

I would love to see your finished blankets. Share in the Facebook Group or tag me on Instagram and Facebook @psychedelicdoilies

Rainbow Shells Pillow | Free Crochet Pattern

If you love color as much as me you’ll love today’s free crochet pattern for the Rainbow Shells Pillow Cover.

Awhile back I made a rainbow baby blanket. It was one of those “just because” projects when you need something fun and mindless to do. (Baby blankets are my go-to when I need to get my crojo back.)

Anyhoo, when I shared the finished picture on social media a friend messaged me immediately and asked if I could make a pillow version. My friends inspire so many of my designs!

The Rainbow Shells Pillow Cover is a pretty quick and easy crochet pattern. Simple enough for an advanced beginner. If you can double crochet, you can make this pillow cover!

Additional photos to show color contrast:

I didn’t realize that my “purple” was technically blue until I finished the project. Depending on the lighting and in contrast to the “blue” I chose it looks very purple.
