Ugly Christmas Blanket Crochet Pattern

Merrrrrrry Christmas! Okay, so I know there’s not enough time to whip up this cheery blanket before the big guy comes down the chimney but that shouldn’t stop you from adding it to your holiday hooking!

Ugly Sweater Christmas Blanket Crochet Pattern

This free graph pattern is full to the brim of Christmas spirit and I’m dyyyyyying to see it worked up. Truth be told I don’t think it’s ugly. I think it will make a gorgeous blanket but I don’t have the time or the energy to tackle it!

If you crochet this ugly sweater christmas throw, please share it in the Psychedelic Doilies Facebook Group! Join now.

Do you love it as much as I do? Pin it with the image below.

The graph is 99 x 77 tiles large so, depending on the stitch you choose, it should make a  good sized medium or “throw” sized blanket. I cannot predict the exact size of your finished project. Every hooker’s blanket will vary in size depending on yarn, hook size, stitch choice, and personal tension. For example, traditional corner to corner vs mini c2c will change the size of the end product.

New to  Crocheting Graphs?

If you’re interested in corner to corner (c2c) or mini c2c check out this post for heaps of tutorials. You’ll find tips and techniques for color changing, bobbins (very important!), and more.  If corner to corner is not for you, check out this post for a couple other options for crocheting a graph including the bobble stitch and HDC method.

The free PDF file includes a full sized version of the graph and a nine part breakdown which you may choose to print out and tape together so that the tiles are larger and easier to see.

Elf CAL Week 5

It’s week five of our Buddy the Elf Crochet Along! To learn more about the CAL and see the previously released panels, click here.

Elf Graphghan Blanket Crochet Pattern

Two panels released this week – one “official” panel and one top secret bonus panel.

I’ll be sharing my two panels from last week in this post as well because life got as full as a new bottom of syrup and I failed to publish a blog post for week 4.

Week 4 Panels

Clausometer

Everyone knows that the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear. I used the super fun metallic yarn again for the green to give it an extra kick of Christmas Spirit.

Spaghetti

Is there sugar in syrup? Well then YES, this panel is my favorite for the entire crochet along. I added bead details in my piece to represent candy and I feel very Buddy about the whole thing.

Week 5

Buddy!

The one and only human elf. Once again I used Bernat Pipsqueak for some fluffy fun details.

Buddy The Elf Graphghan Christmas Blanket

That’s it! Next week I’ll share the picture of my totally finished and put together Elf blanket. Once it’s complete the full pattern will be available to purchase on both Ravelry and Etsy.

Click here to find all the details until then.

Happy Hooking!

Elf CAL Week 3

It’s week three of our Buddy the Elf Crochet Along! To learn more about the CAL and see the previously released panels, click here.

Elf Graphghan Blanket Crochet Pattern

Three panels released this week – two “official” panels and one top secret bonus panel.

First up, Buddy’s snow globe.

Snow globe from Buddy the Elf

He could never have made his way through the seven levels of the candy cane forest, the sea of swirly twirly gumdrops, or walked though the Lincoln tunnel to find his dad without his trusty snow globe.

Elf crochet along week 3 - Snow globe.

As you can see, I’m using any and every excuse to use this sweet, tinsely yarn from Hobby Lobby. It looks so perfect in this panel.

Elf crochet along week 3 - Snow globe.

Next up, that treacherous jack in the box.

buddy the elf jack in the box

This panel is actually the bonus panel from last week but I decided to include it in my finished blanket. To find out the two other panels that released this week you’ll have to join the CAL!

Elf CAL – Week 2

It’s week two of our Buddy the Elf Crochet Along! To learn more about the CAL and see the previously released panels, click here.

Elf Graphghan Blanket Pattern

Three panels released this week – two official panels and one top secret bonus panel.

First up this week, a truly remarkable accomplishment – the world’s best cup of coffee.

I’m trying to give every panel in this crochet along a little something extra to make Buddy proud. In this panel I used I Love This Yarn Metallic in Peacock to represent the shining neon sign.

Elf Crochet Along Graphghan - World's Best Cup of Coffee

If you’re making this blanket for that special someone in your life, I’ve got you covered.

I used the super fun and floofy Bernat Pipsqueak yarn again this week to give the top of the lingerie that feathery awesomeness. Then I added a simple chain ribbon that I sewed on with a bit of red yarn. I love it so much!

Elf CAL – Week 1

Week one of our Elf Crochet Along is finally here!!!!!

For all the details about the CAL and how to join click here.

Elf Crochet Along

This CAL moves fast like Santa’s sleigh so each week multiple panels will be released. This week we have two square panels and also a super secret bonus banner panel. I’m not crocheting the bonus panels myself so to find out what they are you’ll have to join the CAL.

Okay, enough lallygagging through the candy cane forest like a bunch of cotton headed ninny muggins, let’s get on to the big reveals!

The Narwhal

Elf Crochet Narwhal

I am including lots of fun elements in my Elf panels and am having an absolute blast finding extra Christmasy ways to make this CAL worthy of Buddy. It’s hard to tell in the picture but the little iceberg floating in the water is made of fluffy yarn (bernat pipsqueak) and it’s sooooo much fun to touch. I also gave this little guy a small applique eye and little hand stitched smile.

Etch a Sketch

Crochet Etch a Sketch

I could not resist adding buttons for the knobs in Buddy’s etch a sketch. And a fun snowflake design.

Crochet Etch a Sketch

That’s it for week one! Like I mentioned earlier, there is also a bonus panel each week of the crochet along but I won’t be working them up myself. This week it’s a banner quote panel. 😀

Nightmare Before Christmas Graphghan Blanket Pattern

Happy Halloween! Or should I say Spooky Christmas? It’s that magical day of the year where tonight we get to be ghouls and tomorrow we can put up the Christmas tree! No? Just me? Okay then.

Nightmare Before Christmas Blanket Crochet Pattern

It’s not quite time for Sandy Claws yet but for this magical holiday witching hour I have a special treat for you. I’ve taken my Jack Skellington graph and added some holiday cheer. Best of both worlds.

(Love it? Pin the image below!)

Friendsgiving CAL – Week 4

I can’t believe it’s the last week of our Friends Thanksgiving crochet along already! I’ve never done a CAL this short before and it really flew. Whew. You can find more details about the crochet along and previously released panels here.

Friendsgiving Crochet Along Week 4

This week is all about the Chan Chan Man! Or, as his friends call him, Ms Chanandler Bong.

More specifically, one memorable Thanksgiving that Chandler spent in a box.

There’s also a bonus panel this week related to Chandler but it’s still top secret right now unless you’ve joined the CAL.

That’s it for this week. Stay tuned next week to see my finished Friendsgiving blanket!

Hogwarts Blanket Crochet Pattern

If you have a Harry Potter fan in your life then I have the perfect project for you. The Hogwarts Houses blanket! A graphghan free crochet pattern for everyone in the wizarding world.

Oh my gosh you guys, it’s finally here! I started teasing this Harry Potter inspired graphghan on my Instagram way back in August and y’all have been patiently waiting and expecto-ing my patronus to release it sooner. Because of my ongoing CALs and life (HELLO, four kids in four schools) this little project took me longer than I expected (or enjoyed). But ain’t that just how it goes sometimes. ANYWAY, without further ado, the …

Hogwarts Blanket Crochet Pattern

Hogwarts Blanket Free Crochet Pattern

All houses are represented here so Harry Potter fans need not worry. I know Gryffindor’s get all the glory but there are many proud Hufflepuffs in the world, as well.

Personalized Border

Personalize your blanket by adding a border in your house color. For my daughter I added a moss stitch border for Gryffindor working two rows of scarlet, one of gold, and one more of scarlet, for a total of four rows. The border is not a part of the graph so you have the freedom to work your own magic here.

The HDC Method

For this project I ditched my usual mini c2c and tried the HDC method for the first time. I have to say, I did not love it as much. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m not as used to it or because I didn’t enjoy the flow. It does take longer than c2c because it works 4 stitches per pixel vs 3 stitches per pixel.

Also, HDC works up taller than c2c. If you work a square graph in c2c it will finish square, but in HDC you end up with an elongated or rectangle shape.

Hogwarts Houses Harry Potter Blanket Free Crochet Pattern

New to Graphs?

If you’re not familiar with graphghans and would like to learn more about how to crochet a graph, I’ve put together some resources for you below.

  • c2c for beginners
  • three ways to crochet a graph
  • estimating yardage for graphghans
  • minimizing gaps in c2c

Size

This free crochet pattern is what I call a medium or “throw” sized blanket when finished, depending on what stitch you choose. The graph measures 60 x 97 pixels large. My blanket measured approximately 6 feet long and 3 feet wide. Like I said before, the HDC method works up long so if you use c2c the proportions of your blanket will be different.

I cannot predict the exact size of your finished blanket. Every hooker’s blanket will vary in size depending on yarn, hook size, stitch choice, and personal tension.

Below you’ll find the free chart and corner to corner written instructions for the Hogwarts Houses Grapghan. You can also purchase an ad-free, printable version of the pattern in my shop. The paid pattern includes one PDF file featuring the written instructions as well as the full chart and 6 part breakdown of the chart so that it’s larger and easier to work from.
