Parks and Rec CAL – Week 6

It’s week 6 of our Parks and Rec Crochet Along! You can find a recap of all the panels we’ve done so far here.

I proooobably should’ve waited and released this panel tomorrow. Oh, what’s tomorrow?

galentines day gif

Galentine’s Day

Don’t think just because I designed an entire Galentine’s Lapghan that I’d leave the best day of the year off our crochet along.

Galentine's Day c2c crochet panel.

There’s also a super secret BONUS panel this week that’s a doozy but you have to be a part of the crochet along to get the insider scoop. *insert evil laughter here*

Yarn

All yarn is Red Heart Soft unless noted otherwise.

  • white
  • really red
  • rose blush

Parks and Rec CAL – Week 5

It’s week 5 of our Parks and Rec crochet along! You can find a recap of all the panels we’ve done so far here.

I didn’t think I was going to get anything published this week because last week went kind of like this:

Leslie Knope - Everything hurts and I'm dying gif

But, huzzah! The plague has finally lifted so we’re still on schedule. This week there are two small panels. I know that’s a lot of pressure but if we didn’t double up some times this CAL would last from now until the Harvest Festival.

This week we’re celebrating some of Pawnees favorite villains. First up –

Sweetums

Parks and Rec Sweetums

We can’t leave out our favorite company we love to hate. Not only was it a constant political foe of one miss Leslie Knope, Ben actually worked there for awhile.

Speaking of infamous, Pawnee wouldn’t be Pawnee without a certain pest problem.

The Raccoons

Dragon Scale Ear Warmers – Free Crochet Pattern

This free dragon scale ear warmers pattern is easy enough for an advanced beginner and is a quick make. The headband uses the crocodile stitch to create the look of dragon scales.

Dragon Scale Ear Warmers Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • Worsted Weight Yarn
  • 5 mm (H) hook
  • Scissors
  • Needle for weaving in ends (my fav)

affiliate links

Stitches and Abbreviations Used

  • Chain – ch
  • Single crochet – sc
  • Double crochet – dc
  • V stitch (dc, ch1, dc in same stitch)
  • Crocodile stitch

Yarn Pictured: Red Heart Unforgettable (100% Acrylic), Colorway (Echo, Petunia)

There are quite a few variations of the crocodile stitch out there. I work in multiples of 6 and for my scale foundation row alternate V stitches and double crochets. I’ve included the video tutorial for my dragon gloves in this post as a reference for how to work the two row repeat that make up the dragon scales.

Find the forever free pattern below or purchase an inexpensive, ad-free PDF in my shop.

Instructions

Ch 60, slip stitch to join, making sure not to twist chain.

(Test sizing to make sure it fits comfortably around your head. If not you may need to adjust your tension or try a different hook size.)

Round 1: SC around (60 stitches)

Round 2: Chain 3, DC in same stitch (V stitch created), *chain 1, skip stitch, DC in next stitch, chain 1, skip stitch, V stitch in next stitch, repeat from * around, slip stitch to second chain of starting chain 3 to join.

Round 3: *Work crocodile stitch in first V stitch (5 DC dound right post of V stitch and then 5 DC up left post of V stitch), slip stitch around back of next DC, continue from * around, slip stitch in last DC of round.

Rounds 4: Chain 3, DC in same stitch (first V st made), *Chain 1, DC in center of last scale, Chain 1, V st in DC from previous row (between two scales). Repeat from * around.

Rounds 5-11: Repeat Rounds 3 and 4 until you have 5 finished dragon scale rows.

Round 12: SC around.

Round 13: Slip stitch around.

Round 13 is optional. I like to add a slip stitch row to match the tension of the starting chain row.

Cut and weave in ends.

2. The Valentine scarf below is sweet in its own right but I included it in this round up because I think it would also make a great little table runner. The way that have it all blocked and pretty in the photo makes me want to make it a center piece.

3. I love red and I love all the fantastic textures that are happening in this pattern. Plus, if you add neutral buttons instead of hearts, you can wear it all season.

Parks and Rec CAL – Week 3

It’s week 3 of our Parks and Rec Crochet Along! You can find weeks 1 and 2 here.

This week we have not one but TWO panels. And they both pay homage to our favorite little puuuuuuppy entrepreneur, Tom Haverford.

Entertainment 720

Entertainment 720 gif

Who could forget TH’s first big venture? I mean, it gave us the greatest party of all time. If I had to do this panel again I’d use a brighter blue so that the globe in the logo was a little more obvious. Or maybe I would switch out the gray corners for black ones so that it would pop more.

And for my next trick …

Snake Juice

Snake Juice Ron Swanson Gif

I think Snake Juice is, by far, my favorite episode of Parks and Rec. Yes, it gave us drunk Ron, Jerry, and Ben but let’s not forget the true name of the episode – The Fight. Dancing Ron is all fun and games but drunk Leslie and Ann steal the show with their incoherent ranting.

That little snake detail is just too much. It is * litrally * the cutest bottle of Snake Juice I’ve ever seen.

Galentine’s Day Lapghan Free c2c Pattern

What could be more Leslie Knope than a handmade Galentines crochet blanket? This easy Galentine’s Day graphghan crochet pattern is the perfect gift to make your gal pals slightly uncomfortable by the amount of time and effort you put in.

Oh readers, you beautiful talented, brilliant, powerful musk oxes. Oxen? What day is it? Oh, only the day where I talk about the best day of the year.

Galentine's Day Leslie Knope Quote

Inspired by my ongoing Parks and Rec Crochet Along I obsessively worked on this unity quilt lapghan so that it would release in time for you to make it for the beautiful, rule-breaking moth in your life before February 13th.

Galentine’s Day c2c Lapghan

c2c Galentine's Day free crochet pattern

I get it. You just don’t have time to make a mosaic portrait from the crushed bottles of your poetic and noble land-mermaid’s favorite diet soda. We’ve all been there. But never you fear, this project can be whipped up with plenty of time before Galentine’s Day and you can still get your normal 3 1/2 hours of sleep a night.

Galentine’s Day Crochet Lapghan

Red Heart Super Saver Yarn - Pink, Purple, and White

Materials

Of course, you can use whatever yarn your heart desires. I pulled from my personal stash for this little labor of love and used the following.

affiliate links

Yarn

  • Red Heart Super Saver Pretty ‘n Pink
  • Red Heart Super Saver Medium Purple
  • Red Heart Super Saver White

Hook: 5 mm (H) hook

Method

I used a mini c2c stitch, using a ch increase of 4 (instead of the normal 5) and a starting ch of 1 (instead of the normal 2). This creates a tighter stitch and eliminates the large gaps that can sometimes happen between tiles of a corner to corner project. New to c2c or graphghans? The links below might help.

Size and Yardage

My finished blanket measured approximately 27 1/2 by 33 inches large. I don’t know the exact yardage but I used 2+ skeins of white and pictured above are the leftovers of my pink, purple and 3rd skein of RHSS white.

Personally I would like my lapghan a smidge larger so if I had to do it again I might go up a hook size and possibly switch to a traditional c2c stitch that uses double crochets instead of half doubles like the mini stitch.

Also, I chose not to add a border but that could be another way to make your lapghan a little larger. Check out my Crochet Edges and Borders board on Pinterest for some edgy inspiration.

Parks and Rec CAL – Week 2

It’s week two of the Parks and Rec crochet along! I know you’re riding the cholesterol high of the breakfast food from last week but it’s time to put your flags at half-mast. No, that’s too high – show some damn respect.

Week 2 – Lil Sebastian

Lil Sebastian gif

Let’s have a moment of silence, shall we? And by silence I mean listen to the angelic voice of Andy Dwyer.

Lil Sebastian was a national treasure and if you don’t get it well then you probably like calzones.

Yarn

I’m using Red Heart Soft throughout the CAL. For this panel I used:

  • white
  • black
  • toast
  • wheat
  • guacamole

Parks and Rec CAL – Week 1

Welcome to week one of the Parks and Rec Crochet Along!

Leslie Knope Dancing Gif

Feel free to take a short, celebratory break-dancing break. I’ll wait.

Parks and Recreation Crochet Along

Before we start this sacred crochet along I have one question for you:

Why would anybody ever eat anything besides breakfast food?

Parks and Rec CAL Week one - breakfast food.

If you answered “People are idiots” you get a virtual waffle from JJ’s diner heaped with complimentary imaginary whipped cream.

Week one is breakfast food! Bacon and eggs for Ron and waffles for the beloved Leslie Knope, of course.

I tried something totally different with this panel that I had never done before – hand stitched details. Working in small graphs like this is really limiting. There’s only so much you can do with 25×25 pixels.

Parks and Rec CAL - Week 1

The eggs and bacon both use yarn-sewn details. Then I lost my mind and decided instead of changing colors in my waffles I would stitch all the details. I had regrets. Lol. I do like how it turned out but it was a lot of work. If I had to do it again I’d probably just go with crocheting the color changes. You don’t have to do all that waffle work, though.

Yarn

I’m using Red Heart Soft throughout the CAL. I love the finished drape of this yarn, it’s not so scratchy, and it doesn’t split a lot like similar yarns.

In this panel I used

  • wheat
  • toast
  • white
  • wine
  • tangerine

In my graph legends I don’t used brand specific colors so “wheat” and “toast” become “light brown” and “dark brown”, etc. That way you can use whatever yarn you darn well please.

Want to join the fun? You can purchase the pattern on Etsy.

Happy Crocheting!
