Quarantine CAL – Stash Busting Blanket

Anyone else going a little loopy during these crazy times of quarantine? What better time to raid that stash for a funky project to take our minds off things.

Quarantine CAL

Inspired by my local yarn store that is doing a similar knit along, I have designed a fun crochet along to help us get through these uncertain times. We will be making the ultimate stash busting blanket using 6 yarns from our personal stashes and 6 stitch variations that I have created.

Each day I will roll dice to determine:

  • Which yarn to use
  • Which stitch to use
  • How many rows to work

Daily prompts will be posted on my website and in the Psychedelic Doilies Facebook Group so make sure to join (and answer the two entry questions).

The inexpensive pattern can be purchased in my shop or with the buy button below. I can’t wait to get started and see everyone’s blankets grow!

Don’t forget to join the Facebook group after purchasing the pattern. Click here to join now.

Happy Hooking!

Peek a Boo Cowl Crochet Pattern

I am delighted to finally release the Peek-a-Boo Cowl crochet pattern! This cozy cowl may be my favorite design to date. I originally created it a year ago but never published it because life got in the way.  So without further ado – the Peek-a-Boo!

Peek a boo cowl free crochet pattern

Peek-a-Boo Cowl

The Peek-a-Boo cowl is made in two separate panels that are joined together to create the fun peek-a-boo effect. I, of course, chose a psychedelic inner layer but any two contrasting worsted weight yarns can be used to make the scarf. The color possibilities are endless!

I used Knit Picks Chroma, worsted yarn. If you’ve not used Chroma before it is so super squishy and soft, I highly recommend it. There are also tons of colorways to choose from, both solids and variegated. When browsing the yarn on Knit Picks website make sure to click individual skeins so that a knit swatch pops up to give you a better scope of the colorway.

Spice Market Scarf Crochet Pattern

I released the sister pattern, the spice market cowl, last spring but never published the full sized version. Well, the wait is over! This free crochet pattern is easy enough for a beginner, only using single crochet stitches. (Yes, spike stitches are just SC!)

Spice Market Scarf

Beginner friendly crochet pattern - the spice market scarf.

Spice Market Yarn

The name of this pattern comes from the unique yarn used to make the spikes. This 100% silk yarn is made by Darn Good Yarn and is handmade in India by local women using upcycled saris. Every skein is unique and you never know the exotic color combos you’ll end up with but they’ll always have lots of bright color and beautiful shine from the silk.

Mine had lots of greens, pinks, oranges, and blues, which I loved because it’s such a funky, psychedelic combo. I used to live in India and this yarn actually reminds me less of the spice market and more of the bright powders for sale leading up to Holi. I mean. Just look at those colors.

You can learn more about the yarn here. It retails for 16.99 a skein (100 grams) but I received mine with my Darn Good Yarn of the Month subscription which is $10 a month (plus shipping). The monthly subscription box includes one skein of yarn, a free pattern, and a mystery gift. One time my mystery gift was a whole second skein of yarn!

If you’re interested in joining the Yarn of the Month club you can use my link to get your first month free. Click here to activate the offer for one free month of Darn Good Yarn.

Continue to the free pattern below or purchase the inexpensive, ad-free printable version in my shop.

How to Decrease and Turn a Corner in C2C

[mv_video key=”cdieihkhdl3vvkyxhfyd” volume=”70″ aspectRatio=”true” title=”How to Decrease in C2C” thumbnail=”https://mediavine-res.cloudinary.com/v1576177219/vrutbb9ghs13osgmjtks.jpg” doNotOptimizePlacement=”undefined” doNotAutoplayNorOptimizePlacement=”false” sticky=”false”]Decreasing in the corner to corner stitch can be confusing if you’ve never done it before. Many people have asked me how to turn a corner in their c2c project so I’ve created this quick video tutorial that shows you the method I use to decrease in c2c. I hope it helps you become a corner conquering queen!

Decreasing in the corner to corner crochet stitch.

How to Turn a Corner in c2c

If you’re unfamiliar with c2c it can be quite disconcerting to reach the corner of your graph and not know how to start going in the other direction. If you’re using written instructions for c2c it can be even more confusing. You finish a certain row and then the directions simple say “corner”. What does that even mean?

In this post and video I show you the quick and easy way to begin decreasing your project and master that dreaded corner.

If you’re new to c2c or crocheting graphs you may also find the articles below helpful. The Corner to Corner for Beginners post is a huge round up of the best tutorials from around the web.

How to turn a corner in c2c

Decreasing in Corner to Corner Crochet

When you’re ready to begin decreasing on one side of your c2c project your hook and working loop should be situated in the top right corner of your last stitch made. To “turn the corner” simply chain 2 and slip stitch in the top left side of that same stitch.

Your working loop will now be located in the top left of your last stitch. To finish the remainder of your row work a regular c2c stitch in that same space and continue down the next row of your graph.

If your project is a rectangle then you’ll continue to increase on one side of your project while decreasing on the opposite side until you reach the second corner. It may sound confusing but once you’ve done it once or twice I promise it’ll be easy peasy.

Variations in Decreasing

I use the chain 2 method for decreasing but I’ve also seen others work two single crochet stitches or two slip stitches across the top of their stitch to reach the left corner. I prefer the chain 2 approach because it looks neater, in my opinion, and is faster. It also makes it easier to go back and add a border to your finished project later.

Die Hard Christmas CAL Week Four

It’s week four of our Die Hard Christmas blanket crochet along! I can’t believe there’s only one week left! Click here to find all the details about the pattern and to see the previously released panels.

Die Hard Christmas Blanket Crochet Pattern

There are now 10 total panels that have been released in our Die Hard CAL. Whew!

Machine Gun

Ho Ho Ho

Now that you have a machine gun you need a little Ho Ho Ho. 🎅
