How to Decrease and Turn a Corner in C2C

[mv_video key=”cdieihkhdl3vvkyxhfyd” volume=”70″ aspectRatio=”true” title=”How to Decrease in C2C” thumbnail=”https://mediavine-res.cloudinary.com/v1576177219/vrutbb9ghs13osgmjtks.jpg” doNotOptimizePlacement=”undefined” doNotAutoplayNorOptimizePlacement=”false” sticky=”false”]Decreasing in the corner to corner stitch can be confusing if you’ve never done it before. Many people have asked me how to turn a corner in their c2c project so I’ve created this quick video tutorial that shows you the method I use to decrease in c2c. I hope it helps you become a corner conquering queen!

How to Turn a Corner in c2c

If you’re unfamiliar with c2c it can be quite disconcerting to reach the corner of your graph and not know how to start going in the other direction. If you’re using written instructions for c2c it can be even more confusing. You finish a certain row and then the directions simple say “corner”. What does that even mean?

In this post and video I show you the quick and easy way to begin decreasing your project and master that dreaded corner.

If you’re new to c2c or crocheting graphs you may also find the articles below helpful. The Corner to Corner for Beginners post is a huge round up of the best tutorials from around the web.

Decreasing in Corner to Corner Crochet

When you’re ready to begin decreasing on one side of your c2c project your hook and working loop should be situated in the top right corner of your last stitch made. To “turn the corner” simply chain 2 and slip stitch in the top left side of that same stitch.

Your working loop will now be located in the top left of your last stitch. To finish the remainder of your row work a regular c2c stitch in that same space and continue down the next row of your graph.

If your project is a rectangle then you’ll continue to increase on one side of your project while decreasing on the opposite side until you reach the second corner. It may sound confusing but once you’ve done it once or twice I promise it’ll be easy peasy.

Variations in Decreasing

I use the chain 2 method for decreasing but I’ve also seen others work two single crochet stitches or two slip stitches across the top of their stitch to reach the left corner. I prefer the chain 2 approach because it looks neater, in my opinion, and is faster. It also makes it easier to go back and add a border to your finished project later.
